For more than two years, the Port-au-Prince facility of Mission des Églises Baptistes Indépendantes (MEBI) had to make do with expensive and unreliable electricity. The last few months were even worse, because gang violence made the electricity company inoperable.

Now the facility has inexpensive and reliable electricity, because we were able to help them purchase new lithium batteries for their solar power system. Here's how Horland Harris, President of Hugz 4 Haiti / MEBI, describes what this means for their work:

We cannot thank you enough for helping to bring our 2+ years of suffering to an end.  Being able to generate our own solar power results in

  1. Improved security of our staff and volunteers.  Being able to have visibility at night is invaluable to our safety.

  2. Improved ability to pump water to support our day-to-day activities.

  3. Improved communication  - enabling us to remain connected to the internet and reduce the cost of costly cell phone data plans.

  4. Improved our ability to impact our communities through our services (education, children's home, clinics, churches, humanitarian and disaster relief programs).  Many non-profits have been forced out of Haiti - you've made it possible for us to continue in the face of tremendous odds.

This investment will usher in unquantifiable benefits to those we serve in Haiti for years to come.

Thanks again for all you do to advance our mission on the ground, and may God bless your organization and those who make what you do possible.
